We had just moved in our new home and I was keen on some good looking storage for toys
I am always looking for items that lead "double lives"
And these beauties had that
They are perfect for toy storage inside and also serve as a softer foot ottoman/coffee table/tv tray for "diner & a movie" night
I was not keen on their color when I purchased them, however I had staining them in the back off my mind.
At the time the little guy was still in his crib and we had two night stands in the guest room... well the room has since become his room and those stands have now moved to the same room these cubes are in as side tables (see double lives here too)... so i decided to stain the cubes to match those side tables
And I like it a lot
Here is the before....
(Excuse the mess... this seems to be a drop zone for every random boy thing)
Here is a "during" the staining process... the bottom is stained and the top is natural (top looks a little more yellow'ish in person)
And here is the after...
They are very warm looking and they match the side tables perfectly
I was a little nervous of damaging them and of stain transfer when & if they get wet from a drink or something... but the product I used has a clear varathane protector built into the stain and it applied very easily and so far it has made it through two movie nights and a couple sleepovers
Still looking good
Someday I would love to swap out the "beige leather loveset" for these beauties
I saw these while I was wandering through Pottery.Barn and the were pretty and I think they would look so good in our space........ however the loveseat we have was the very first piece of furniture we bought as a couple, lots of cuddling babies & nursing babies on that couch (TMI sorry), not to mention we saved a really long time for it... and well I just don't know if I can part with it... I think maybe someday I will donate it to one of the boys "first home" collections (maybe - silly me I know)
Do you hold on to furniture for sentimental reasons too ??
(confession ..... and jeans 4 sizes to small - shesh)
Be back later with another project before&after post... now off to be creative (& donate those jeans)
