my dad built another table this past week, and it is breath taking....
i was a little hesitant about the color he picked and the high gloss finish at first but i have to say i just stood there and stared at it for 20 minutes drooling and imagining it is my house, a clients house, the house i could build myself to put it in... the pictures just don't do it justice.
the table is 39" wide and 6' long
i think this table could be an amazing island in a kitchen... and i know i would find it very inspiring if it were my desk!!

now a little history on the table... the table is constructed of t&g douglas fir from an old elevator annex built in the late 1940's (??) then moved to our yard 30'ish years later where it was used for grain storage for many years. and now for the past 15 years it has sat empty housing many many birds (and other things i am sure)
we slowly started taking it apart last year and that is when we discovered how beautiful the wood was and how well the wood had aged (as the annex was cladded in metal protecting the wood from sun and weather damage).
the legs of this table have another story... i am not sure of the exact details but i do know that they were the old wooden veranda posts of a character home. when we first saw them they were painted cream with mint green and they were in really rough shape. there were two of them and so each one was cut in half, the paint removed and the wood beneath was a pleasant surprise... it is always a bit of a risk when purchasing "recycled" items.

in this last picture check out the chair (you have to look past the table) this is a 100 year old captains chair that we picked up (with 6 others) and are hoping to bring some "life" back into them as well... i have some great ideas for that chair (more on that another time)
for the table above i think any of these chairs could work well...

i love the idea of a settee on one side... so did my dad, so he is going to build one.
