well thats what happens when...

i try to work

i know i sat down to do some work tonight, even though it is closer to midnight than i needed it to be. but i got caught up with looking at pretty things.

i like pretty things, things with texture (like a matelasse, i know i know i talk about them all the time, but they really are my favorite) i could own one in every color and i could probably have one in every room.

i dare you not to like this...

i like linen. i am not a huge fan of the wrinkle prone qualities of the material, but i love the look and texture and the color tends to always be subtle, even a navy button front collared linen shirt is subtle (i bought one a couple weeks ago, how could i not).

i like white glass that looks like those crazy cheap paper doilies. it can be a plate, a vase or anything really... they are pretty (wrought iron is a close contender here). when i looked for a picture all i found was crazy projects of people gluing doilies to plate or some old china plates... so here is your daily dose of iron... a little goes a long way

i like leather. the kind that looks old and worn out. always been partial to brown leather, the ralph.lauren look. i have always dreamed of a sofa like that since i was a kid. and after two active boys our brown leather sofa is starting to look that way, and i like it.

this one is a mere $12G's over at ralph.lauren...

i like jeans. i know this is not a design element, at least not for me. but i always seem drawn to jeans in a store, there is just something about a great pair of jeans.

so this is what happens

i sit down to be creative and design a home and i quickly think of things i like, i think of finishes, furnishings, color & texture, and the things people like. sometimes i wonder why they like what they like, i know why i like what i like - most of the reasons are kinda silly really - but i like them, and i wonder if their reasons are silly like mine too, or emotional, a part of their heritage, their faith, the mood they have or the mood they want to have, their reputation, fleeting fads, like why?

why do you like what you like? do you know why?

I am so with you on the jeans. For me it's the hunt to find the perfect pair at Value Village. It's also a comfort thing, like comfort food except jeans don't make you fat (unless you buy the wrong pair).
Our house is still a pretty blank slate and I am starting to look for things to fill the spaces. But then we get another bill for doing something on the house and my plans get delayed... oh well some day. For now I am happy that we are living in our house.

I like it all! My problem is that my "like" list is very extensive-- oh, and I tend to like expensive things :)
