Due to updating the alcove that holds the freezer & after installing the new cabinets (yesterday's post), the trickle of updating that small space turned into updating thee entire space.
I supposed if I would not have painted the room I could have left this side as it was - but that's not me
The "aura" paint - color "Raindance" (Benjamin.Moore) continued throughout the room - I used approx. a 1/4 of the can to paint this entire room - which is amazing coverage, and although the room is not very large, I wouldn't say it is little either... also I was painting over a darker paint color. (Note: you do not require a primer with this paint). The price of the paint can be more than what you would pay elsewhere, however the coverage, workability, low odor, and finish - are worth the extra $40/g to me.
I prefer to do all my cutting in first, making sure to "dry brush" down the wall on your edges as there is nothing worse than seeing a paint ridge/line from a build-up of paint around your room after it has dried.
In total it took 3 hours to cut-in around 2 doors, a closet, a window, the baseboards, and the ceiling
(I prefer not to tape, so a good brush is important - trust me it makes all the difference)
It then took me 1/2 hour max to roll it all, and another 10mins to touch up where I thought additional coverage was needed.
The Room after...
I found a gold convex mirror second hand and painted it white, the spoon chalkboard was a clearance item at Pier1, the chrome baskets are Super.Store for like $6, and the white metal press cut file holders are a Home.Sense find. Each boy has their station with room for 1 pair of shoes or boots below (the rest are in the closet)... and I must say this really has made mornings around here much easier.
Before the blinds really didn't suit the space - they were Wal-Mart specials used simply to keep the heat out in summer. Privacy is not an issue here as the window is high off the ground and there isn't a sight line in for passer-byers (is that a word?)... anyway...
So I picked up this material for a face-lift on the wooden roman blinds.... I went pinstripe
This room has a pocket door so hanging hooks the entire length or our wall is not an option... the closet holds our additional jackets. When we built our home we had the finisher install shelving on one side of the closet, with a r&s across the other side, with shoe shelving below the r&s section... I really hesitate to show you the mess inside, but in keeping things real around here, this is what I am talking about... we like our shoes, what can I say! (I literally just snapped this with my phone - no prepping at all)
The wooden desk on the left was made by my dad from wood reclaimed from our annex. I asked him to add an additional shelf, and by doing this I was able to add baskets to give my sweets & I a space to put our mitts and such for quick access on our way out the door...
And that is our Mudroom...
I will continue searching for...
The perfect area rug to replace the heavy looking black one (although it does hide the dirt really well)
The perfect artwork above the coat hooks
Pulls for the cabinet drawers (although I am liking the look of nothing on the cabinets - if this was my kitchen we were talking about I would neeeeeed handles, but here maybe not)... ehhh we will see
A chalkboard for the freezer door or the wall to help us organize ourselves & the freezer a little more, perhaps add a grocery list spot too... stuff like that
So now that this room is done...
I can direct my focus on The Office & The Front Entrance!!!
Happy Friday........
